If you google 1st birthday photoshoot
you will most likely see endless photos of balloons and cakes smashed and smeared on little faces. I am not a huge fan of this style as I drift towards more natural portraits. “My” families are photographed in their environment and comfortably together. I adore capturing connection and love in the parents eyes. Baby’s first steps safely taken while being supported by mum’s and dad’s hands, favourite books and meaningful outdoor locations are so much sweeter than the sweetest cake smashed.
When Sharah first contacted me about her baby’s first birthday portraits and said she didn’t want a cake smash I got excited. I knew instantly that she was my type of MAMA.
We scheduled a shoot, combined a simple background portraits with lifestyle photographs in their home and in the Glen, Dunfermline. When I met Sharah in person she was exactly like she sounded on the phone – full of sunshine and warmth and incredibly lovely energy.
Sharah had this lovely idea of using her daughter’s photographs as gifts in place of party bags for birthday party guests. I just had to make sure that photographs were ready on time.
If you scheduled the shoot a little earlier, you could also use beautiful portraits as a backdrop to party invites. Displaying a large portrait of your sweet child at the party could also be a lovely thing.
“Thank you Karolina for capturing Marley’s first birthday so beautifully.
When Robbie and I were looking for a photographer, we didn’t want to choose someone who had a one size fits all approach with typical setups like cake smash. We loved the natural reportage style of your photography so that’s why your portfolio stood out. On the day of the shoot you made us all feel relaxed and comfortable especially Marley who seemed totally at ease with you. The end result was a unique collection of lovely pictures that we will treasure forever”.
